Prince George County Administrator Percy Ashcraft had declared a local emergency in anticipation of severe weather related to Hurricane Sandy.
Ashcraft declared the Local Emergency early Friday afternoon in the wake of Governor McDonnell declaring a State of Emergency for the Commonwealth.
County staff has been busy on Friday preparing for what could be a storm that is equal to that of Hurricane Irene in 2011. County residents and businesses are urged to follow preparedness plans as Sandy gets ready to move into the area over the weekend.
The heaviest day of the storm is anticipated for Monday, according to Prince George Fire and EMS Director Brad Owens. The Emergency Operations Center in Prince George is expected to be activated on Sunday and all emergency agencies are on stand-by.
Residents are encouraged to keep in touch with the County’s Public Information line at (804) 733-2659 for regular updates, or via the web at www.princegeorgeva.org and Twitter and Facebook.
